During the first few sessions, Eric usually sets aside 5-15 minutes for clients to share what concerns them. Eric will then work on those issues by asking clients to repeat out loud some specially chosen sentences, and observe their emotional responses to these sentences. For instance:
- I release feeling resentful towards my family.
- I release the thought that I have failed as a father.
- I choose to forgive my partner for betraying me.
After clients have explored the major issues of concern using this approach, Eric will continue to explore issues related to different aspects of their life such as their relationships with:
Clients who have completed this preliminary exploration can then move on to the next stage to explore their beliefs in detail.
